Dissection of a dream by YannickBouchard Dissection of a dream by YannickBouchard
This is my entry for the Wacom Dreams contest.

To me, dreams are what keep us alive. I believe that one who has no dream is like a dead person. Dreams are there to keep everyone of us going, to help us go through hard times. Life is not always beautiful, but we must see what is beautiful in it and cherish it, and we must always believe in something; having goals and hopes is what makes us stronger and better, otherwise, we're running in circles or having our head buried in the sand.

So this my idea of what dreams are, and this is what I wanted to represent -more of a general definition- instead of illustrating my own personnal dreams.

This is a self-portrait. To the left, the caterpillars are the dreams breeding in our mind. They are building their silk tent in the midst of dead leaves and branches, hoping to become of course pretty butterflies. To the right, the butterfly is one of those dreams that came into being.

Pretty simple, really.

I'm sorry for commenting on so many pieces..I think I'm just in love with your work. This is breathtaking. The composition is perfect, as is the lighting. I especially love the way you hold your hands. They look as delicate as the butterfly and beautifully positioned. I don't know if the band-aid was intentional for this piece or you actually had a cut, but I feel like it goes along with how delicate your hands are.

I don't mind, your comments are very welcome and I'm really glad you like my art! The band-aid thing was just a weird little detail added there for the sake of having something there for people to wonder why the hell do I have a band-aid on my finger. Ha! Ha! Or maybe did it have some sort of obscure meaning, a symbol for sacrifices and "getting hurt" in the process of trying to accomplish one's goals.

Your artwork is always just so breathtakingly gorgeous. I still can't quite completely bring my rational mind to the realization that this is ALL hand-painted~ it just seems too flawlessly perfect to be true! Your images are always so amazingly crisp and the skin is so beautifully textured... and the details and concept of this one are just gorgeous. The fine silk of the caterpillars and the metamorphosis they will eventually undertake to become butterflies... just stunning.
This piece really should've been selected for the semifinalists, I can't believe that it wasn't! Good luck to you man, this is absolutely mind-blowingly gorgeous. ♥

You're being way to nice! :D

But I agree with you, I should have been selected for the semi-finalists. But oh well, gotta move on!

Again, thank you so much for your kind words. Really glad you like my work. And again, best of luck to you for the contest!

The face reminds me a little of Edward Norton...looks awesome!Don't know why but my favorite part is how the facial hair on his forehead reflects the light. It's such an insignificant detail but it's always the little things that make a painting special, right?
Anyway, beautiful piece of art!

It's incredibly enjoyable seeing somebody making "super realistic surrealism". I think there're to few out there. Very nice of you to keep my hope up.

Exquisitely executed. :)

Oh wow, this is amazing :O I hope this wins, you're paintings are phenomenal.

There is one ting though, and I hope you don't mind me mentioning it. I was kind of a nerd and read through the whole rules (since I was interested in entering this myself). One of the rules is that the piece cannot contain any distinguishing artist marks, which I'm assuming includes copyright and signature.

The link to the rules is here [link] And that particular section is c

I hope you dont mind me pointing this out, it's just I really don't wanna see this painting be discounted on account of something so small D:

I don't mind you mentioning it at all. It's actually really kind of you to do so! As you can see, I didn't take the time to read all the rules, so thank you very much! I removed both my signature and the copyright. It's weird though that they are asking the artists not to put their signature, but I checked a few other entries and none had a signature, so I prefer taking it out instead of being discounted from the contest.

Thanks again! :)
